Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo 2019/2020

The 2019/2020 season of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo begins in the Principality on 23 October 2019.

This year, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo presents another rich programme of performances in the Principality.

From 23 to 25 October 2019 – Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Salle Garnier

"En compagnie de Nijinsky" ("In the Company of Nijinsky") is a suite of four ballets:

  • Daphnis & Chloé (choreography by Jean-Christophe MAILLOT, music by Maurice RAVEL)
  • Le Spectre de la Rose (choreography by Marco GOECKE, music by Karl Maria VON WEBER)
  • Aimai-je un rêve (choreography by Jeroen VERBRUGGEN, music by Claude DEBUSSY)
  • Petrouchka (choreography by Johan INGER, music by Igor STRAVINSKY)

The dancers of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be accompanied by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Kazuki YAMADA.

From 5 to 7 November 2019 – Atelier des Ballets de Monte-Carlo
As part of "Les Imprévus", the Atelier des Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be opening its doors to the public. Visitors can discover the reality of elite ballet teaching, which allows students at the Academy to perform with the world's leading ballet companies.

From 4 to 6 December 2019 – Atelier des Ballets de Monte-Carlo
As part of "Les Imprévus", the Atelier des Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be offering a select audience a foretaste of Jean-Christophe MAILLOT's new creation specially prepared for the end of the festive season.

From 27 December to 5 January 2020 – Salle des Princes, Grimaldi Forum
The Ballets de Monte-Carlo will be performing the creation Coppél-i.A. by its choreographer and director Jean-Christophe MAILLOT. As eroticism bursts into the lives of two young people, an artificial being will cause them to rethink everything they thought they knew about love.... In a new take on this romantic classic, Jean-Christophe MAILLOT offers us a reflection on the search for a soul mate in a technologically advanced society. Is it the flesh and blood person we know, or someone else questioning our belonging to the human race?

From 2 to 4 April 2020 – Atelier des Ballets de Monte-Carlo CANCELED
As part of "Les Imprévus", a third workshop is to be organised. Just yards from the dancers, the audience will have the privilege of an immersion in the unique atmosphere of the Aterlier workshop in the lead-up to the premiere of a ballet.  

From 23 to 26 April 2020 – Grimaldi Forum CANCELED
The dancers of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo will perform am ambitious, mixed programme including technically and artistically demanding pieces:

  • Altro Canto I by Jean-Christophe MAILLOT
  • Quatre tempéraments by George BALANCHINE
  • Casi Casa by Mats EK

From 7 to 9 May 2020 – Atelier des Ballets de Monte-Carlo
As part of "Les Imprévus", dancers from the Ballets de Monte-Carlo will go behind the curtain to create a choreography by joining forces with young scenographers from the Pavillon Bosio.

From 26 to 28 June 2020 – Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Salle Garnier
The students of the Princess Grace Academy will give their traditional end-of-year Gala, a chance to see some of them for the final time, before they leave to join their new companies.

4 July 2020 – 6 pm – Place du Casino de Monte-Carlo
For the second edition of the "F(ê)aites de la danse !", dance festival, the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, with their choreographer Jean-Christophe MAILLOT, will once again invite the public to celebrate dance in all its forms. Head to the Place du Casino de Monte-Carlo to take some steps...
