The Monegasque Association for the Protection of Nature is carrying out a Major Clean-Up of the Seabed on 13 October 2013

The Monegasque Association for the Protection of Nature (AMPN) was formed in 1975 to establish a marine reserve and protect the only underwater Posidonia meadow in the Principality.

Since then, the Association has increased its activities both at sea and on the land.

On 13 October 2013, the AMPN is launching a major clean-up of the sea bed in the Larvotto nature reserve, where a large amount of waste has accumulated due to heavy use in the summer season.

Twenty or so divers from Nice, Menton and Monaco are taking part in this operation on a voluntary basis.

For almost an hour and a half, the divers (with a minimum of level 2), armed with nets and gloves, will pick up the macro-waste that is littering the seabed in the reserve.

This waste will then be collected by the Société Monégasque d'Assainissement sanitation company, a partner of the event, which will make containers available to the AMPN.

This event will be followed by a picnic, provided this year by the Department of the Environment, to thank the participants for helping to protect our environment.

The divers will meet on 13 October 2013 at 9 a.m. under the clock on the central point of the Larvotto beach.
