The Principality of Monaco is a favourite starting point for enchanting journeys into the back country, towards the Cote d’Azur or the Italian Riviera.

Taking the Route des Crêtes, you will quickly reach the old village of Eze, standing high on its spectacular rocky peak. La Turbie and its Trophée des Alpes, or Trophy of Augustus which is more than two thousand years old! Roquebrune Village, formerly part of the Monegasque territory and its 5th century Carolingian castle and much more.

Curiosities abound at each turn, the Jean Cocteau museum in Menton, the Greek Villa “Kerylos” in Beaulieu-sur-mer, the Saint-Elme Citadel in Villefranche-sur-mer, the Ephrussi de Rothschild museum in Cap-Ferrat. The Chagall and Matisse museums and the famous flower market in Nice, the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, the Vauban Ramparts in Antibes and the marine show at Marineland, the glass workshops at Biot or ceramic workshops in Vallauris, the Villa Fragonard and the Grasse perfumeries, the list goes on.

If you have a day to discover the surroundings of the Principality, we recommend the four tourist circuits which will help you to discover architectural treasures and marvellous natural sites without having to drive for kilometres.
