"The Nutcracker" in Monaco

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, "The Nutcracker" ("Casse-Noisette") will be broadcast live from the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco for the first time ever

The Ballets de Monte-Carlo, founded in 1985 by H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover, are celebrating their 30th anniversary.   For the past 30 years, the Principality of Monaco has created an iconic image of dance and choreography.  Jean-Christophe Maillot, Choreographer and Director of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo since 1993, has furthered this vision, enabling the company to achieve international renown.

In this large-scale show, Jean-Christophe Maillot pays tribute to Monaco, which first welcomed him 20 years ago, where everything is possible and dance is the most powerful kind of magic.  To help create this magic, he called upon his loyal friends Philippe Guillotel for the costumes and Dominique Drillot for the lighting.  The scenography is by Alain Lagarde and Jean Rouaud (winner of the 1990 Goncourt Prize) was involved with the dramatisation of this revisited ballet.

This unique performance features the dancers of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo and specially invited stars from the Bolshoi Theatre Ballet, Olga Smirnova and Artem Ovcharenko.

The delightful show consists of 90 dancers and 100 or so musicians.  It is another way to discover the magic of Jean-Christophe Maillot's" Nutcracker Company" ("Casse-Noisette Compagnie"), which brilliantly portrays the history of the Compagnie des Ballets de Monte-Carlo from 1985 to the present day.
