The Grimaldi Forum Leads the Dance with "Manon" from 27 to 29 June 2013
After the Kirov, the Bolshoi and the Paris Opera, the Grimaldi Forum is hosting London's Royal Ballet in a co-production with the Monaco Dance Forum
The Royal Ballet will be in Monaco from 27 to 29 June to tell "the story of Manon," the consuming passion of a student, Des Grieux, for the beautiful Manon Lescaut – a passionate story full of violence, devotion and tragedy.
The dramatic choreography borders on virtuosity and requires the dancers in the two principal roles to be exceptional. MacMillan's sense of detail and dramaturgy creates a striking evocation of the atmosphere of 18th century Paris, revealing a world of filth and poverty through the richness of the characters.
The sets and costumes are wonderful and the libretto, with music by Massenet (not to be confused with Massenet's opera on the same theme) is melodic and full of emotion.
