COPPÉL-i.A, the new ballet created by Jean-Christophe Maillot takes spectators on a journey into the near future.

Frantz and Swanhilda are in love and want to get married. But one day, a caravan driven by the mad scientist Coppélius rolls into their village. At the caravan's window, Franz sees a beautiful young woman. His heart leaps and he spends hours outside Coppélia's window. A jealous Swanhilda tries to learn more about her rival, and discovers that Coppélia is in fact merely a puppet created by the mad scientist. Swanilda does everything she can to bring the truth to light.

Inspired by the tale "The Sandman" by Hoffman, this ballet questions the meaning of love. Just as Frantz and Swanhilda begin to discover their erotic feelings, an artificial being enters their lives and throws their certainties into doubt. Is the ideal partner the flesh and blood person we have always known, or the abstract figure who makes us question our humanity?
