Symphonic concert by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Valery Gergiev. On the program: Claude Debussy and Hector BerliozThursday 15 July 2021, at 9.30 pm Palais Princier - Cour d'Honneur

This summer, classical music lovers are cordially invited to an evening at the Prince's Palace. As every year, the Princely Family will be opening the doors of their home to host concerts performed by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra in the famous Cour d’Honneur.

For the opening concert, the Prince's Palace will be welcoming Valery Gergiev, one of the most charismatic conductors of the age. Valery Gergiev was introduced to music with the piano, and went on to study at the Conservatory of Leningrad (Saint-Petersburg), where he was taught by none other than Ilya Musin. After making his debut at the Kirov Opera (now the Mariinsky Theatre), he was named assistant conductor under Yuri Temirkanov, and shortly afterward embarked on an international career. His star quickly rose and saw him perform on some of the world's most prestigious stages, from London to New York, Vienna, and Paris.

He will conduct the musicians of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic for this opening concert, in which the audience will hear Prélude à l’Après-midi d’un faune by French composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918) and Symphonie fantastique by another great French composer, Hector Berlioz (1803-1869). Valery Gergiev has collected many awards and distinctions in the course of his career, including the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation  (1996).

A magical evening awaits!
