Spotlight on the 62nd Monte-Carlo Television Festival

Publication date: 12/06/2023
One of the biggest events on the television industry calendar gets under way on Friday! The world of the small screen is gathering in the Principality until next Tuesday for the 62nd Monte-Carlo Television Festival

The Festival was created in 1961 at the initiative of Prince Rainier II. The “Builder Prince” wanted to encourage a new form of artistic expression to further the cause of peace and harmony between the people of the world.

Sixty-two years on, the Television Festival remains an important institution in the Principality, rewarding the planet’s best TV programmes and their creators with the famous Golden Hymph statuettes. These coveted awards are among the most prestigious in the world of international audiovisual production.

This year’s Festival qui will be the epicentre of the TV scene, with the highlight of the opening ceremony set to be a world premiere of Shelter – an Amazon Prime Video series – with Harlan Coben, Allen MacDonald, Jaden Michael, and Constance Zimmer in attendance. The closing ceremony, meanwhile will see Ricky Whittle and Lena Situations present the Nymph of Honour to the American screenwriter and producer Howard Gordon.

This year, fans will be able to attend the ceremonies and get close to the stars attending the Festival, including the American teams behind the Rings of Power and the Young and the Restless. There will also be the chance to see a special exhibition of historic photos, presented as part of celebrations to commemorate the centenary of the Prince Rainier III’s birth. And of course, there will be the free fan zone and world premieres of out-of-competition TV productions.

The glitz and glamour-filled event that marks the start of the summer in the Principality is also an important gathering of the international industry, and the Festival caters expertly to TV professionals by organising a series of meetings, interviews, and press conferences. The future of documentaries, the latest TV 3.0 trends and AI narration will be just some of the fascinating subjects discussed under the glass roof of the Grimaldi Forum Monaco.

Last but not least, for 2023 the event has signed a new partnership deal with Apple TV+, and cast members from the hit series Ted Lasso will be coming to the Principality!
