"Bal de la Mer" 2014 at Monaco Yacht Club
The 2014 SeaKeeper Award will be presented to Wendy W. Benchley at the "Bal de la Mer" ("Sea Ball") on 26 September 2014
The International SeaKeepers Society® is a not-for-profit organisation whose aim is to protect the health of the world's oceans and the climate. SeaKeepers' mission is to enable the maritime and yachting community to take advantage of their unique position to encourage research and raise awareness of the threats to the oceans.
The International SeaKeepers Society® has announced this year's winner of the SeaKeeper Award, Wendy W. Benchley, who works for the protection of sharks at a global level.
The trophy will be presented on Friday 26 September at the Yacht Club of Monaco, during the Monaco Yacht Show.
Based in Washington D.C., Wendy W. Benchley is actively involved in marine policy and the ecological community. She has been scuba diving for more than 40 years as part of her work with government officials, associations and other civic leaders to help promote stronger maritime and environmental policies. This work has brought her international recognition.
At this evening event there will be a presentation on protecting sharks and efforts to preserve them, including the latest expeditions by the SeaKeepers Discovery ship to tag tiger sharks.
