The Palace of Monaco is hosting the Pétanque Masters
The final of the Pétanque Masters will take place on 5 and 6 September in the Palace Square and will attract some of the best players in the world. As a side event, 32 celebrities will take part in one of the most popular sports in the world.
Thursday 5 and Friday 6 September will be very special days for Pétanque! Within the living memory of Monegasques and boules players, pétanque has never been played outside the Palace! On 2 July 2011, this square played host to all the royals who had come to celebrate the marriage of HSH Prince Albert II to Princess Charlene. On 5 and 6 September, this same square will be entirely given over to pétanque. The common denominator – a festive occasion, open to all.
"We want to project a convivial, festive image."
Marc Costa, President of the Monegasque Pétanque Federation and coordinator of the event, said that "these two days will be convivial and festive." Access to the square and seats in the grandstand will be completely free. Two days of festivities when jugglers, trapeze artists, fire eaters, cheerleaders, the band of the Palace Guards and parachutists landing in the square … will liven up the matches against the unique backdrop of the Palace, an iconic symbol of the Principality.
On the first day, 32 celebrities will participate in a tournament that will be much more relaxed than the finals, which will take place the next day and will be reserved for professionals only.
The Sovereign himself will take part in this unique event, which will be held on boules pitches constructed especially for the occasion. In addition to a grandstand in the central area seating 850 people (free access, booking required), there will be broadcasts on a giant screen.
This internationally renowned sporting event, which is taking place for the fifteenth consecutive year, is an unmissable fixture of the 2013 boules season, with the participation of the world's best players.
