Albert Diato, a Monaco Artist

From 4 July to 15 September 2013, the Exhibition Hall of the Quai Antoine Ier (Salle d'Exposition du Quai Antoine Ier) is presenting a retrospective exhibition that takes a new look at Albert Diato's work

Multifaceted artist Albert Diato (1927 - 1985) was equally talented with a paintbrush, a pen or clay.

After taking his Baccalaureate in Monaco, he joined the Foreign Legion, then decided to move to Paris, where he came into contact with the artistic trends of the time, such as Surrealism and Lettrism.

Diato discovered the pleasures of working with clay in 1948, thanks to Picasso.  He created numerous ceramics and paintings, which were in abstract style from 1957.

His encounters with famous artists such as Cocteau, Sartre and Picasso influenced his work and enabled him to develop his artistic approach.

The retrospective exhibition in Monaco from 4 July to 15 September 2013 restores Albert Diato to the important position he occupied among 20th century artists during his lifetime.
