The Monaco Boys' Choir lent their voices to commemorations marking the Centenary of the birth of Prince Rainier III, before leaving to tour the United States. We take a closer look at this vocal ensemble and its role in raising the profile of the Principality worldwide.
While its origins date back to the reign of Prince Antoine Ier (1661-1731), it was not until 1974 that the Boys' Choir was formed at Monaco Cathedral.
Regularly taking part in religious services, the choir of around thirty boys aged between 9 and 16 also performs at concerts held on special occasions in Monaco. Recently, the Boys' Choir took part in Commemorations marking the Centenary of the birth of Prince Rainier III on 31 May 2023, paying a wonderful tribute to the Builder Prince, who founded the choir.
Under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the Boys' Choir actively contributes to raising the profile of Monegasque arts, in the Principality and beyond.
The choir regularly embarks on international tours, and has performed in more than forty countries on five continents since 1974. The "young singing ambassadors" will be leaving for a summer tour of the United States from 4 to 24 July, with concerts scheduled in cities including New York, Philadelphia,
Washington D.C., and Miami!
The tour will introduce American audiences to one of the Principality's specialities. In the nearly fifty years since it was formed, the Monaco Boys' Choir has performed in some hugely iconic locations around the world, from the UN headquarters in New York, to the Forbidden City
Concert Hall in Beijing, and the Teatro Opera in Buenos Aires, with pieces by virtuoso composers such as Schubert,
Saint-Saëns, and Brahms.
On Thursday 22 June, the talented ensemble will enchant the audience at Monaco Cathedral with a special concert featuring the music for their US tour, featuring Bach, Haydn, Fauré, and Rachmaninov.
