Fontvieille shopping centre marked its 30th anniversary on 20 November.  Popular with locals and visitors alike, the mall is set to enter an exciting new era in the next few years, reshaping the face of the Principality.

On 20 November 2022, the day after Monaco's National Day, Fontvieille shopping centre celebrated its 30th anniversary. Locals and visitors have been using the shopping mall with its 35 stores for three decades. It's the perfect complement to the retail experiences on offer in the districts of La Condamine, Larvotto, and Monte-Carlo.

A symbol of the Principality's constant renewal, the shopping centre in this district - entirely built on land reclaimed from the sea - is set for a major overhaul that will see it updated for new uses and requirements, all in line with the latest environmental standards. The project, which will completely change the face of Monaco, will involve the creation of a two-hectare park with 2,000 trees planted. The idea is to make ecology the number one priority in this location, at the foot of Monaco-Ville. Sustainability - an issue close to Prince Albert II's heart - will be crucial to the project, and the construction will be designed with lower energy needs and a limited carbon footprint.

Providing a new haven of greenery on the edge of the port of Fontvieille, the shopping centre will offer a complete experience, including leisure facilities, restaurants, shops, and a place to simply take a gentle Mediterranean stroll. "This will be a hub of life overlooking the sea, where visitors can walk, catch a movie, go shopping, and have lunch. The customer experience will be central to the project," explains Philippe Clérissi, president of the Economic Interest Grouping behind the project.

Each floor of this major development will have a colour associated with Monaco and the landscapes of the Riviera: red for the roofs around the Rock, blue for the Mediterranean Sea, and lavander, a typical flower of the region!
