"Modern Times" with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra

The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra is giving a special "Modern Times" concert on 9 and 10 June 2012 in the Salle Garnier

"Modern Times," an American comedy by Charles ("Charlie") Chaplin, was released in 1936.  It is Chaplin's last silent film to feature the "Little Tramp" character, who is fighting for survival in an industrialised world.

The film is a satire on unemployment and the living conditions experienced by a large part of the western population during the Great Depression.  It revolves around a burlesque-themed melody.  The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Frank Strobel, and seated below the screen, will accompany the film in this Cine-Concert of music composed by Chaplin himself, arranged with the assistance of Alfred Newman.  A great film and great music – not to be missed!
