Raising awareness about the environmental impact of cigarette butts
With the arrival of the summer heat, Larvotto Beach is re-opening to the public, and the "Monaco Clean Beaches" campaign is being renewed this year to raise awareness and combat pollution.
Since 4 July, two beach ashtray dispensers have been in place at Larvotto Beach, while pocket ashtrays are also available free in the solarium area. They can also be obtained on request from the reception desks at the Tourist Offices on Boulevard des Moulins, at the Station, and Allés Lazare
Sauvaigo.
For obvious health reasons, you are strongly advised to keep the ashtray and re-use it. Clean beaches are a reflection of the Principality's commitment to protecting the environment, and particularly the Mediterranean Sea. This initiative requires an effort from all of us.
Some 7,800 ashtrays have already been distributed on the beaches since the campaign was launched. The campaign will continue until stocks of ashtrays run out or until 13 September at the latest.
For information, "Monaco Clean Beaches" is part of a wider campaign dubbed "Monaco zéro mégot" ("Monaco Zero Cigarette Butts"), under a long-standing partnership between Monaco City Hall, the Tourist and Convention Authority (DTC), and Société
Monégasque d’Assainissement (SMA). In addition to ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment, the aim is to raise awareness among smokers about the importance of keeping beaches and other public spaces clean, and the environmental impact of cigarette butts more generally.
