Eglise Saint-Nicolas

The Saint Nicolas church was built between 1987 and 1989, on the domain of Fontvieille, according to S.A.S. le Prince Rainier III’s wishes. The church was consecrated to Saint Nicolas, Patron of the ancient Cathedral of Monaco, ruined in 1893. Its retrieved baptistery is now in the heart of the chapel.

This modern church in a Ligura Coast style with its square and its fountain is located in the centre area of Fontvielle, just like the heart of a city centre.

The bell tower, called the Campanile, is a dome overlaid in glazed tils which has given its name to the present place.

The three bells were baptized at the church during the Consecration Ceremony on Sunday 22 October 1989 by the Archbishop of Monaco, Monsignor Joseph-Marie SARDOU, in the presence of the Princely Family of Monaco, namely HSH the Prince Rainier III, LL. AA. SS. Albert, Caroline and Stephanie as well as the three children Andrea, Charlotte and Pierre.
