Choreographic performances by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo: "Lac" by Jean-Christophe Maillot with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kazuki YamadaWednesday 30 December 2020 at 4 pm Grimaldi Forum Monaco - Salle des Princes
One can only applaud the initiative. This Lac is a grand moment of dance, an almost lyrical flight of fancy that holds nothing back, yet retains all its nuance. It will no doubt remain a dazzling memory for all who experience it (…).

Jean-Christophe Maillot returns to the torments of a tale inspired by our childhood fears and night terrors. Against a backdrop of Machiavellian family intrigue, the choreographer depicts a prince torn between black and white, good and evil, candor and eroticism... Perhaps our very humanity ultimately lies in that frustrated insatiability that defines us from the moment we utter our first cry - We want it all!

LAC by Jean-Christophe Maillot once again makes the narration the focal point of the piece. In this ballet, all is dark, complicated, and rich with meaning... It was the idea of Tchaikovsky himself to write a symphonic ballet about a human creature whose metamorphosis would make all love impossible. The genesis of this swan, inspired by Green, Nordic and Russian mythology, makes it a thrilling hybrid.
