The Story
The Mukhtar, the chief of a Palestinian Arab village, comes to
ask the Israeli governor to lift the curfew, so his son can get married. After long negotiations, the governor
accepts, on condition that he and his soldiers are guests of honour at the
wedding. The Mukhtar returns, wondering how his village will react to this
agreement. Opposition and
contradiction are then revealed within the community. "Today's modernity is tomorrow's
archaism, tomorrow's archaism is today's modernity."
