Actress Sarah Bernhardt spends her summer in Belle-Ile-en-mer, in Brittany. In an interview with a journalist, she recalls the biggest moments of her career.
Sarah Bernhardt, who was described by Edmond Rostand as the "queen of attitude and princess of gesture", made her mark on the world of theatre with her performances and what Victor Hugo called her "golden voice". She began treading the boards at the age of 18 at the Comédie Française, performing iconic roles such as the queen in Ruy Blas with great panache. She set up her own theatre company in 1880 and enjoyed considerable success in France and abroad. An actress and director, this talented woman presented plays that were thought to be unstageable at the time, such as Lorenzaccio, a prose play by Alfred de Musset.
A legendary figure, played with brio by Geneviève Casile.
