As part of its Great Season, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing a special concert conducted by Fuad Ibrahimov with Nikolaï Lugansky on piano. On the programme: Johannes Brahms and Modest Mussorgsky.Sunday 20 October 2019, at 6 pm Auditorium Rainier III

The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing Piano Concerto n°2 in B flat major, opus 83 by Johannes BRAHMS, and Pictures at an Exhibition by Modest MUSSORGSKY.

Written in 1881, Piano Concerto n°2 in B flat major, opus 83, was first performed in private. After it proved a stunning success, Brahms went on to perform his work publicly in 22 European cities. This work pushes the conventional structure of the piano concerto to its limits.

The Pictures at an Exhibition suite was written by Modest MUSSORGSKY after he visited the exhibition to the memory of his friend, painter and architect Victor Hartmann, who died in 1873. Originally written for the piano only, it was later adapted for orchestra by Maurice RAVEL in 1922.

As a prelude to the concert, music critic and lecturer André PEYRÈGNE will be presenting the works to be performed at 5 pm.
