In the early days of the 20th century, a train of great prestige, the Express d’Orient (later to become the Orient Express) leaves Turkey, a country riven by civil war. On board, the staff pull out all the stops to keep the colourful passengers happy. They include Miss Mead, a stricte English governess, Miss Cartmoor, "the Buffalo Sarah Bernhardt", Mr Souline, a chess master, and Bram Stoker, creator of Dracula. But when two newcomers (playwright George Bernard Shaw and Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes) join the train, a woman disappears. The investigation promises to be complex, and the travellers experience a series of surprising events throughout a night of mystery, murder, and adventure.
