According to widespread tradition, St. John's
Day is a festival of fire and light.Sunday 24 June at 8.50 pm Quartier des Moulins
In the Principality, the "
batafoegu"
(bonfire) is lit on the evening of 23 June in the Place du Palais and on the
night of 24 June in the Place des Moulins.
Folk groups, including La Palladienne from
Monaco, provide entertainment on these two evenings, around a fire. These evening events are organised by
the Saint Jean Club and Monaco City Hall.
The "
batafoegu" are preceded
by a religious ceremony in the Chapel of the Prince's Palace and in the Church
of Saint Charles in the Moulins district.
