The Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival ("Printemps des Arts") Celebrates its 30th Anniversary

The programme for 14 March to 13 April 2014 includes a rich and very varied selection of works

Over five weekends, the Director of the Festival, Marc Monnet, is offering an extensive and very varied selection of musical works.

The programme includes Hungarian Nights, surprise events, Baroque, a portrait of Haydn, a special Japanese weekend and a Moroccan day.

Launch of the Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival (Printemps des Arts) in Paris

The Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival is holding a launch evening on 28 January 2014 at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées

As part of the thirtieth Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival, to be held in the Principality from 14 March to 13 April 2014, its Artistic Director, Marc Monnet, is offering a preview in Paris on 28 January 2014.

François-Frédéric Guy, concert pianist and specialist in the works of Beethoven, will play Sonatas No. 15, Op. 28, 14, Op.27 and 29, Op.106.

First Weekend of the 2014 Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival ("Printemps des Arts")

The Festival begins on 14 March and will continue for five weekends, until 13 April 2014

The programme for the first weekend shows all the variety of this thirtieth Festival.  From 14 to 16 March 2014, music is being celebrated in several venues in the Principality.

To begin with, there's a first concert devoted to Scriabin, which will take place at the Rainier III Auditorium on 14 March at 8.30 p.m.  This will be followed on 15 March by an "Introduction to the Works" at 6 p.m., on the theme of Hungarian music – an educational approach enabling the audience to better understand the "Hungarian Night" concert at 7.30 p.m.

On 16 March, the Salle Empire is hosting "A Piano Sunday with Philippe Bianconi."  Known for his performances of Liszt, Brahms and Schumann, the pianist will highlight the links between two modern composers - Béla Bartok and Claude Debussy.  He will play at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Salle Empire, while a third performance is scheduled at the Salle Garnier at 6.30 p.m.

Second Weekend of the Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival ("Printemps des Arts") … A Full Programme!

There are concerts galore in this second weekend of the Festival from 20 to 23 March 2014

Every year, "The Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival Surprise Night" invites the audience to discover a world of unusual sounds.  Dance and music are combined for one evening at this event, which promises to be full of surprises.  It will take place at the Rainier III Auditorium on Thursday 20 March at 8 p.m.

Friday 21 March is devoted to Haydn.  The Salle Empire will be hosting Emmanuel Hondré, musicologist, for an introduction to the composer's works from 7 p.m., followed by a "Portrait of Haydn" concert at 8.30 p.m. with one of the leading quartets, the Parker Quartet.

On Saturday 22 March, performers are invited to share their knowledge and passion with students from academies and conservatories in Monaco and the surrounding region.  These Saxophone Masterclasses will take place at the Variety Theatre and are open to the public.

Talented Young Artists are also in the spotlight on Saturday at the Salle Empire at 8 p.m.  Saxophonist Carmen Lefrançois and Nathanäel Gouin will play Lauba, Desenclos, Hurel, Denisov and Berio.

Saturday evening will continue with "A Baroque Night" at 8 p.m. in the Salle Garnier.  This event looks at the two extremes of the Baroque period – from the very beginnings of this music, which developed from improvisation in the early 17^th century - to its last glimmerings, when it gave way to the classical style of Mozart and Haydn.

Sunday 23 March is devoted to Scriabin.  The prodigious young pianist Geoffroy Couteau will perform at 11 a.m. in the Salle Empire, followed by a meeting with musicologist Anne Rousselin at 4.30 p.m. at the Grimaldi Forum, and a Scriabin concert by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring lighting effects, at 6 p.m.

Fourth Weekend of the 2014 Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival ("Printemps des Arts")

Nine concerts are scheduled for the fourth phase of this music festival, from 2 to 6 April 2014

Weekend No. 4 of the Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival "Printemps des Arts" will begin early, on Wednesday 2 April, with a "Children's Day."  Marc Monnet will present one of his works, "Bibilolo," which is aimed especially at young children.  A concert of strange, fascinating sounds will take place at the Salle Empire at 3.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m.  

The Spring Arts Festival will move out of the Principality on Thursday 3 April for an "Out of Town" concert at Saint Michael's Church (Eglise Saint Michel) in La Turbie at 8.30 p.m.  At the concert, the Gilles Binchois ensemble will play medieval music on the theme of "L'amor de lohn" ("Love from Afar").

The fourth Portrait of Scriabin will take place on 4 April at 8.30 p.m. in the Rainier III Auditorium, while the Salle Garnier will host the third Portrait of Haydn on 5 April at 8.30 p.m.

Harpsichord and piano master classes will also take place on 5 April, as well as a "Talented Young Performers" concert.

The fourth phase of the Festival will close with an "Anniversary Day" on Sunday 6 April.  The Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival, which is celebrating its 30^th anniversary, invites the public to a festive musical gathering.
