"Princess Grace: More Than an Image" at the NMNM

"Princess Grace: More Than an Image" is the first phase of a collaboration between the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco (New National Museum of Monaco), the Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design and Pringle of Scotland.

This exhibition arose from a proposal by the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco and marks the launch of a new phase of the Pringle of Scotland Archives Project, which will run from 2012 to 2013.  It includes research into H.S.H. Princess Grace of Monaco's personal wardrobe, with a special focus on the knitwear she wore throughout her career as a film actress.

Since 2010, Pringle of Scotland has been re-examining its archives with Central Saint Martins through documentary research undertaken by students of the BA Fashion History and Theory course.  The project also includes recreations of archive pieces by students of the MA Fashion course.

"Princess Grace:  More Than an Image" presents an intimate portrait of H.S.H Princess Grace of Monaco.  The title was inspired by a quotation by the Princess in Time magazine in 1955, when she was still Grace Kelly the actress:  "I don't want to dress up a picture with just my face."  The idea of discovering the person behind the image is the central theme of the whole project and the archives that are being exhibited.

The exhibition reflects Princess Grace's personal interests;  it evokes her enthusiasms through documents and archives selected by students from the BA Fashion History and Theory course.  A capsule knitwear collection, inspired by the exhibition, will be designed by BA Fashion Design students, and will be on show at the Villa Sauber in September 2012.
