Overlooking Fontvieille and its port, the Unesco Garden is a
perfect balance of nature and culture.
The garden is almost an open-air exhibition, with numerous contemporary
works of art displayed among the flower beds, creating a beautifully calm
environment. Visitors can admire masterpieces including Alessandro Montalbano’s
“Et le septième jour” (1995), Antoine Bourdelle’s “Grande baigneuse accroupie”,
and “Grand Ours” by F.X. Lalanne (1992). And there are many others to be
discovered too!
The pieces are all part of the Rainier III Sculpture Trail, which includes just over 200 stunning artworks spread throughout the
Principality. From this verdant garden, planted with Mediterranean species,
there are superb views of the Rock of Monaco and the Prince’s Palace that sits
atop it.
This peaceful garden is very popular with the locals, who often bring
their lunch here on fine days.
In the evening, it’s the perfect place for a romantic walk among the
soft lighting, with the Prince’s Palace and the Port of Fontvieille providing a
beautiful backdrop...
Our tip: The arch covered with bougainvillea at one of the entrances to the
garden makes for a great photo opportunity.
