The Grimaldi Forum Monaco Announces its Next Major Summer Exhibition

"Monaco Celebrates Picasso" is a tribute to the painter on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his death

The Grimaldi Forum Monaco wished to offer a new look at Picasso's artistic work, revealing not only his special links with the Côte d'Azur but also an exceptional selection of major works from a remarkable private collection.

The exhibition is based on two themes, which are reflected in more than 150 works:

"Picasso and the Côte d'Azur" will transport visitors around Antibes-Juan-les-Pins, Golfe-Juan, Mougins and Cannes.   Between 1920 and 1946, Picasso was very attracted to this region in the summer;  the Mediterranean light, the sea and the coast were direct sources of inspiration for him.

"Picasso in the Nahmad Collection" will highlight masterpieces by the artist that form a centrepiece to this collection, which is unique in the world because of its importance and quality.  The collection was built up by Ezra and David Nahmad over the past 50 years.

Monaco Celebrates Picasso this Summer at the Grimaldi Forum

A tribute to mark the 40th anniversary of the artist's death

The Grimaldi Forum Monaco wanted to offer a new look at the work of Pablo Picasso, revealing not only his special links with the Côte D'Azur but also an exceptional selection of major works from a remarkable private collection.

The exhibition, which consists of more than 150 works, is based on two main thematic groups:

- "Picasso and the Côte d'Azur" will transport visitors to Antibes-Juan-les-Pins, Golfe-Juan, Mougins and Cannes - a region that held such a strong attraction for Pablo Picasso in summer, between 1920 and 1946.  The Mediterranean light, the sea and the coast were sources of direct inspiration for him.

- "Picasso and the Nahmad Collection" will showcase masterpieces by Picasso that occupy a central place in this collection, which is unique in the world, both for its importance and its quality.  The collection was compiled by Ezra and David Nahmad over the past fifty years.

The exhibition has been jointly curated by Jean-Louis Andral, Director of the Picasso Museum in Antibes, Marilyn McCully, a renowned specialist in Picasso, and Michael Raeburn, a writer who has collaborated with her on numerous works on Picasso.
