Screening of the film "Adhémar ou
le Jouet de la fatalité" ("Adhémar and a Toy of Fate") by
Fernandel, organised by the Monaco Audiovisual Archives.Tuesday 19 June, at 8.30pm Théâtre des Variétés
This film, shot entirely in Nice and Monte-Carlo, enables
us to see two sides of Fernandel at work – the actor and the director. We know that Sacha Guitry, who was
supposed to work on this film, had to undergo an urgent operation a few days
before it was first shot. The master entrusted his main actor, whom he knew was
intelligent and skilled in his craft, with the task of replacing him behind the
camera. This is not the first time
that Fernandel has become a technician – we recall "Simplet." But with
Adhémar, we have witnessed a curious double personality.
THE STORY
From an early age, Adhémar Pomme is teased for his
appearance. He is so ugly that everyone laughs at him. His friend Tisalé tries to find him jobs
where he can look good, but in vain; every time, it's distressing. Adhémar believes his problem would be
solved if he could be admitted to the Saint-Lampin clinic, where a rich
philanthropist welcomes life's unfortunates.
