From the Marchesi sisters under the Second Empire to Joan Sutherland and Marilyn Horne in the 1960s, the history of Italian romantic bel canto is woven with extraordinary meetings of two female voices, each an expert in the art, combining to add that added dash of magic that simply cannot be forgotten. Since her triumphant Rossinian performances at the Pesaro festival, Olga Peretyatko with her consistently meticulous approach has established herself as a superb incarnation of the Romantic heroines. Her numerous appearances in the role of Lucia di Lammermoor have drawn acclaim from audiences around the world, including in Monaco in 2019. Karine Deshayes, who was a vibrant Zerline on the stage of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo in 2008, has in recent years developed her warm mezzo to become one of the very finest Rossinian voices of the age. Her forays into the grand operas of Bellini (Adalgisa in Norma) and Donizetti (Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda) confirmed her gifts for this technical demanding style of music that requires considerable vocal endurance.

We may look forward to some wonderful music!
