"Michel Vaillant in Monaco" Exhibition at the Grimaldi Forum

From 4-9 May 2017, "Michel Vaillant in Monaco" will be on show at the Espace Indigo & glass atrium of the Grimaldi Forum

From 4 to 9 May 2017, 20 original drawings and 20 Art Strips will be on show in an original setting.

This exhibition is open to all.  It aims to pay tribute to two of the greatest icons of automobile history - Monaco and Michel Vaillant.  Like the work of Jean Graton, Monaco has become a mythical symbol of motor racing.  The Monaco Grand Prix and the Monte-Carlo Rally have given rise to cult venues for motor sport, along with unforgettable human exploits.

Jean Graton's Honda Art Car can also be seen in the glass atrium.  A carefully selected "Michel Vaillant Art Strip," entitled "A fond!" ("To the Full!") depicts the character in Monaco's tunnel as he chases a Ferrari in the 1974 Grand Prix.  This scene perfectly embodies the values of both Honda and Michel Vaillant, i.e. a passion for competition, the technical excellence of speed and the desire to do something bold.

Jean Graton is the man who put the car into comics.  The Art Car symbolises this in an almost literal way – the car is "enveloped" by the work of Jean Graton, as if contained within the framework of a comic strip.
